Around the World in Prayer

Fall 2018

“Come and hear, all who fear God, And I will tell of what He has done for my soul. I cried to Him with my mouth, And He was extolled with my tongue. If I regard wickedness in my heart, The Lord will not hear; But certainly God has heard; He has given heed to the voice of my prayer. Blessed be God, Who has not turned away my prayer Nor His lovingkindness from me.” Psalm 66:16–20

Psalm 66 is a “Psalm for God’s Mighty Deeds and for His Answer to Prayer. As I was typing out the words quoted above, it gave me chills to think of how many prayers God has answered in our lives and how many more in the lives of all who read this and go “Around the World in Prayer” with us. God is faithful! We each have a victory song of what God has done in and for our soul through the power of His truth and the abundance of His grace found in Jesus Christ. With the psalmist let us “shout joyfully to God … sing the glory of His Name [and] make His praise glorious” (Psalm 66:1–2)!

We recently finished the 3rd Annual Arizona Conference and were greatly blessed by the people who traveled from other parts of the country to join us in the study of God’s Word. We now pray you will be blessed by the online study of Election, Predestination, and the Plan of God taught by Gene from the Book of Romans.

As that study is complete, he now begins preparing for the next opportunity to present God’s Word.

Please pray for Gene as he studies and prepares for the Uniontown, Pennsylvania Conference in October and the Kansas Conference in November. Pray for Ron and Susan Sepic as they prepare to host this conference once again, and for some personal tests they are currently facing. Pray for Jesse and Breanna Seltman as they prepare for the Kansas Conference.

Gene’s sister Cindy and her husband Apolos recently represented Basic Training Bible Ministries in Peru to train indigenous pastors and workers in that country as they are both fluent in the language and well-equipped to teach. Thank you for praying for their travel and time of ministry in country. Please be encouraged by the following report:

Peru Mission Report, September, 2018

Cindy Cunningham

Basic Training Bible Ministries sent us to Peru. Apolos and I left on August 18th and returned on the 31st. On the way down, Apolos was asking himself how to justify the expense of a trip to South America to share with other believers; we aren’t giants and probably no different from our brothers there. However, this question was answered throughout the conferences in three different locations, as he taught and saw pastors and leaders and their wives, and in some cases their mothers, taking notes, searching their Bibles and asking questions about the character of God. Their hunger for the Word and the appreciation and joy they shared, encouraged our hearts. A special event was when Apolos was able to present 14-year-old Anthony a copy of Galatians and Ephesians in Braille. For the first time in his life, Anthony was able to read the Word of God for himself.

The Awajum, or Arajun, pastors came down the Marañon, the headwaters of the Amazon, by open canoe with their families, some of them stopping for the night because of the rain. The conference gave them an opportunity to fellowship and be encouraged through the Word. I (Cindy) was able to share the Genesis story of Hagar and Ishmael, outcasts whom God saw and God heard … likewise, He sees and hears our cry to Him. They rejoiced with me that today many of Ishmael’s descendants are coming to salvation through Jesus Christ. About 35 pastors and leaders received their own copy of The Basics book and all church members and visitors received a cross sent by ladies, friends of BTBM.

Not a day went by, but someone told us, “Greet Pastor Gene and sister Nancy for us—we always keep them in prayer and wait for them to come back to Peru!”

Finally, we thank and glorify the name of Jesus for the privilege and opportunity to serve Him.

Continue to pray for Julio and Betty as they minister God’s Word in Peru.

Pakistan

We are once again applying for visas to Pakistan. Please pray for the Lord’s will in the granting of the visas.  Our son-in-law, Daniel, pastor of Cross Road Bible Church in Perth hopes to join us for the ministry there. Pray for provisions for his trip as well as the granting of his visa.

India

PJF and his wife and team of Sunday School teachers will be holding a one-day kids camp at their church on September 21. They are expecting many Hindu children. Please pray for a clear and effective presentation of the Gospel and a faith response from many children. Pray for the teachers as they prepare and teach. Pray that the Lord would use the materials sent back home with the children to reach parents.

Due to a recent offering to BTBM, we can now help purchase land and build a church in a strong Hindu area where Pastor M is working to reach people for Christ. Please pray for this purchase and construction. We praise God for this opportunity as we have been praying for some time to see this become a reality. It will be a great blessing to many!

Nagaland

Classes are currently in session at Kyoto Bible Institute. Pray for Oto the principal, for the teachers, staff, and students. Continue to pray for Throngji, his team of workers, and the children at Bethel Children’s Home.

Zimbabwe

Pastor Mawire will be traveling to Mozambique to hold a Bible Conference there the end of this month. Pray for safe travel, effective ministry, and pray for the health and stamina of “this old preacher.”

PNG

Please continue to pray for a smooth transition for Ese Bible Institute after the promotion of Jim Parlier into the presence of the Lord. Pray for Roger Thiele as he takes over the leadership role. He will be traveling back in October for the next session of classes. Also, pray for God’s guidance for Jaki Parlier as she works out a way to complete the Old Testament translation of the Bible into the Ese language.

Nepal

Pray for Tika and Martha as they travel dangerous roads to remote areas to minister God’s Word. Pray for a full recovery for Martha from recent surgery. Pray for Peter and Prema as they are now ministering amongst Nepalese Christians in Toronto.

Continue to pray for the BTBM board and volunteer staff:

  • Ken and Sharon Curcio
  • Monte and Cheryl Watkins
  • Paul and Phyllis Stanton
  • Ron and Gloria Bassett
  • John and Claudia Dideum

Thankful for your faithful partnership,

Gene and Nan
