Everyone knows John 3:16. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” Do you know the greatest words of our eternal security can be found in 1st Peter chapter one?

1st Peter 1:3-5 says, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead to an inheritance incorruptible, undefiled, does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God.“

Take note of the emphasis here. You know, a lot of times when the Spirit of God moves the authors of Scripture to start stacking up superlatives, it’s very important for us to grasp the emphasis that’s being given. Notice that we have an inheritance:

  1. It’s incorruptible. Thank God for that. If there’s anything you or I could do in this life to diminish or corrupt our eternal inheritance, we would do it. Nothing I do, no failure of mine is going to stain or taint or corrupt that inheritance, incorruptible and
  2. It’s undefiled. It is perfect, pure and holy.
  3. It does not fade away. It’s not something that’s going to diminish. It’s not like the sunset as the light in the sky begins to fade away. It is reserved. You have an inheritance, and that inheritance is,
  4. reserved in heaven for you, and
  5. you are kept by the power of God.

God is taking care of my inheritance in eternity. At the same time that he is surrounding, that he is guarding, that he is protecting, and that he is carrying me and you to the end of our earthly race on this life, you can’t find any words of greater security than what we find in these words right here.
