John 20:11-15 says, “But Mary stood outside by the tomb weeping, and as she wept, she stooped down and looked into the tomb, and she saw two angels in white sitting, one at the head and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain. Then they said to her, woman, why are you weeping? She said to them, because they have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid Him. Now when she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, and did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her, woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking? She supposing Him to be the gardener, said to Him, ‘Sir, if you have carried Him away, tell me where you have laid Him, and I will take Him away.’“

Jesus said, “Who are you seeking?” Let me ask you this morning. Who are you seeking? You say, “I’m not seeking anyone.” That’s your problem. That’s why life’s never going to make sense to you. Until you fix your eyes on Jesus, this world and everything in it and all of your life and experiences are going to look like accidents. All things are in God’s hands and nothing happens by accident. And there is a God who loves me infinitely and endlessly, and He will never diminish His love for me, regardless of what the world does, regardless of what others do, regardless of what I do. That love is infinite and eternal, and He is directing my life.

“Who are you seeking?” He said. “She, supposing Him to be the gardener…” Can you imagine what a joke this must have been in heaven. Oh, He’s the gardener. You know, first He is the God of glory, and then He takes on human flesh – steps down from His throne, enters into the world in the form of a man who looks just like anyone else. And then He’s willing to even be considered the gardener. There is no limit to the humility of our Savior.

These disciples who were warned, who were told —these guys had three years under the greatest teacher who ever walked the face of the earth. They had insight and understanding. They had experiences that are not even recorded. John tells us at the end of the Gospel of John, many other miracles Jesus performed which are not contained within this book.

“These are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and believing you may have life through His name.” How many things did they see? How many things did they experience? But what was the whole focal point of it all? John, the disciple that Jesus loved, the one that was most intimate to him, brings it all together. And he says, what is all this about? What is all of it for? It’s so that you will do the simplest thing that can be done in the end. In earthly life on the face of this earth, and that is with the simple faith of a little child. Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.

You don’t have to understand everything about him. You never will as long as you live, as long as you study. There’s going to be more that you don’t understand than what you do. You know what the greatest wisdom that I’ve ever learned is? To have the faith of a little child and believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is the answer to every need. Every emptiness, every ache, every sorrow, every pain, every affliction that I have ever had.

Jesus Christ is the answer.
