“Cry … ‘Abba, Father'”

Learning to Live in the Spirit of Adoption
“For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, ‘Abba, Father.'”
Romans 8:15
This study of spiritual adoption will hold many surprises for us. Not only is God the Father treated slightly in most works on theology, but the concept of sonship by spiritual adoption is scarcely understood.
Because of the biblical meaning of the term “adoption,” our study is forced to take a practical approach to the relationship of the believer to the heavenly Father. This approach is demanded by each of the passages in which the phrase “Abba, Father” is found.

Learn to Discern

Dorothy Sayers said "God cannot exact from man anything more than He did from Himself." We are to discern evil, so we can defend ourself and overcome. We are called to a Christian Knighthood (1Pe 3:8-12). We can differ and argue doctrine, but it's important to be gracious. Peter emphasizes the cross (1Pe 1:17-21) and Jesus death, burial, and resurrection (1Pe 2:21-24, 1Pe 3:17-18, 1Pe 4:1-2, 2Co 5:14-15). God chose Christ (Isa 42:1). Our choice to trust the Son is free. 1Pe 3:10-12 Seek and pursue peace ("with God" Rom 5:1; "from God" Gal 5:22; "of God" Phi 4:6-7)
