The 2012 Northern Virginia Conference was on The Mountaintops of Scripture, giving a dispensational overview of the Bible.
The goals of this study are three-fold: first, to help the Bible student “think through” the Bible story along the lines of God’s promises and their fulfillment in the Person and work of our Lord Jesus Christ. The second objective is for us to gain a sense of how to “rightly divide” the Word of God, according to its own inherent pattern. In so doing, we are able to see its unity and minimize supposed contradictions. Finally, this overall grasp of Scripture will enable us to “tell the story” to others, keeping the focus where it belongs—on Jesus Christ the Savior.

Ephesians #44

Ephesians #44

Authority is delegated by God; rebelling against legitimate authority, is rebelling against God (Rom 13:1-8). Our self-determination comes from God. The Spirit's control is paramount for other relationships to work as designed (Eph 5:22-33). God chose the marriage roles for deliverance. Husbands are to love their wives as Christ loves the church and his own body. Love is first a decision, then an act, then a feeling. Christ was willing to sacrifice His rights, Himself, His desires (Eph 5:25, 2Co 8:9). Love is sacrificial and beneficial (Eph 5:26-27). "Cleanse" removes barriers allowing open, free and full relationship. A right relationship "gives" himself the gift he has chosen. Spots, wrinkles, blemishes are obstacles to holiness -- "wholeness" -- not missing any benefit of the relationship. Relationship needs nourishment and care (Eph 5:29) investment (meaningful conversation); care implies attentiveness, guidance, instruction. Cherish means to "heat and keep warm" (Eph 5:29) -- wash, adorn, beautify, protect.
