When we believed in Jesus Christ, we became “a new creation” — a new man. 2Co 5:17 says,

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation;
old things have passed away;
behold, all things have become new.

What has passed away? Paul is not talking here about your actions. Minimally he’s refering to our status before we believed in Jesus Christ: 1) our relation to Adam, 2) our condemnation under sin, 3) the fact that we are in spiritual death, 4) the fact that we are headed to eternity in the lake of fire. Those things are all gone. What’s new? Well, I could name at least five things, though the list is much longer: 1) The baptism of the Holy Spirit, 2) the act of regeneration, 3) the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, 4) the spiritual gifting of the Holy Spirit, and 5) the fact that we are sealed by the Holy Spirit.

That’s pretty radical, isn’t it? That is massive, massive change. We are an entirely new creature. Our relationship to God is new. Our life is new. Our motivation is new. Our destiny is new. When we believed in Jesus Christ, we became a new man.
