Micah gives the time of writing as “in the days of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah,” (Mic 1:1). This places his ministry from about 740 to 710 B.C. This book of his prophecies was likely compiled around 700 B.C. He was a contemporary of the prophet Isaiah. His name is a shortened form of “Micaiah” (cf. 1Ki 22:8–28, another prophet), meaning “Who is like Jehovah.”

A Faith That Endures #3

James - A Faith That Endures

Crooked sticks are situations we cannot control and designed for our faith/endurance (Jam 1:12). Lust: Jam 1:15 gives birth to death; Jam 1:16 the source of self-deception; Jam 4:1-2 cause of division and strife; Jam 4:4 makes us a spiritual adulteress and enemy of God. When God seems like the unjust King (Luk 18:5-9); God is going to delay until the answer is timed according to His plan; God may wait, but He's never late (Jam 1:13-15). If you choose to live in sin, you're dead (operationally/functionally). Jam 1:16 written to believers - don't be deceived, God is good; 1Pe 3:15 live your life in such a way that someone sees to power of it. Outline of the book: Jam 1:19. We can loose joy, wisdom if we don't take in the word (Jam 1:21).

Given a the Washington DC Conference in November 2007 this 8-part study in James examines our faith. We are to be 'doers' and not 'hearers' only. By this we are 'justified' before men (not God). In this way James complements (and precedes) Paul writings.
