“Cry … ‘Abba, Father'”

Learning to Live in the Spirit of Adoption
“For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, ‘Abba, Father.'”
Romans 8:15
This study of spiritual adoption will hold many surprises for us. Not only is God the Father treated slightly in most works on theology, but the concept of sonship by spiritual adoption is scarcely understood.
Because of the biblical meaning of the term “adoption,” our study is forced to take a practical approach to the relationship of the believer to the heavenly Father. This approach is demanded by each of the passages in which the phrase “Abba, Father” is found.

The Intersection of Time

The days are evil and evil destroys (Eph 5:16). There is no spirituality in isolation (Eph 5:19). Family begins with God. Love is the expression of true spirituality (Eph 3:14-15).  Our time is pre-appointed (Act 17:25-28, Mat 6:27). He did this so that people would seek for Him (Jer 29:13). The cross intersects time with eternity. We will remain a slave to sin until we believe. Time goes quickly and slowly depending upon our perspective (Job 7:1-7). Time causes pain and suffering because He wants us to seek Him (Job 14:1-6). After months of Job crying out to God and suffering, his focus changed (Job 19:25)
