Daniel #14

Daniel #14

Daniel chapter 7 preceded chapters 5 and 6 chronologically. Civil disobedience (Rom 13:1-4) is only legitimate under three conditions 1) spiritual defilement (Dan 1:8); 2) laws of compulsion in spiritual things, 3) laws of restraint in spiritual matters. Believers must discern (Heb 5:14). Daniel chapter 7 outline: (1) Vision 7:1-14 -- (a) beast Dan 7:1-8; (b) Judgment Dan 7:9-12; (c) Christ's Kingdom established Dan 7:13-14; (2) Interpretation Daniel 7:15-28. The great sea mean masses of people or nations (Dan 7:2), Satan creates strife among the nations (Eph 2:2, Eph 6:12). He controls the "four winds" which are demonic powers. The :great sea" is often a prophetic term for masses of people (Rev 17:15, Isa 17:12-13). God restrains the four winds - the demonic powers that stir the nations (Rev 7:1-3). Daniel was in forced retirement after Nebuchadnezzar - probably between 60 - 83 years old. He searched the scriptures (Dan 9:2). God uses prepared people (1Co 4:2). Daniels vision mirrors that in Chapter two (Dan 7:3-8). Lion represents Babylon - one of their deities (Dan 7:4). When the wings were plucked it refers to Nebuchadnezzars mental illness (Dan 4:34-35). The bear refers to Medo-Persia (Dan 7:5). Raised up on the side refers to the strength of the Persians (the bear was their symbol). The three ribs were a three nation alliance -- Lydia, Babylon, Egypt -- that were crushed. The leopard refers to Greece - the wings mean swiftness in conquest, part of Alexander's tactics (Dan 7:6). The four heads are the fourfold split in Alexander's kingdom. The fourth beast is Rome (Dan 7:7) with iron teeth and ten horns - the ten-power confederation revived Roman empire. The little horn (Dan 7:8) refers to the Anti-Christ - a mouth with great boasts (Rev 13:5-6). Ten horns and "the beast" are related (Rev 17:12-14). The final dictator has several names: "The Prince to come" (Dan 9:26); "the King of forces" (Dan 11:36-46); "the Abomination of Desolation (Dan 12:11, Mat 24:15, 2Th 2:4) ;"the Man of Sin" and "Son of Destruction" (2Th 2:4-8); "The Beast" (Rev 13:4-10); "Antichrist" (1Jo 2:18). The duration of his reign is a prophetic week - "time, times, and half time" (Dan 9:27, Dan 7:25, Dan 12:7). "forty-two months" (Rev 13:5). The last half of Daniel's week is called "the Great Tribulation" (Mat 25:15-21). John's order (Rev 6:1-17) is not the same as Daniel's. Order of events at the 2nd advent: (1) Christ is given dominion (Dan 7:13-14, Rev 5:6-10). (2) the vexation of rulers (Psa 2:1-12, Mat 24:21-22). (3) The return of Christ and smiting stone (Dan 2:45, Dan 7:9-11, Rev 6:16-17, Rev 19:11-21). (4) judgment of nations and establishment of His Kingdom (Dan 7:10, Dan 7:26-27, Rev 20:1-6)
