The epistle of Second Timothy is considered to be one of Paul’s most personal letters. He is writing during his second and final imprisonment to his trusted and beloved son in the faith. Paul knows his execution is imminent. His concern is not for himself, but for Timothy, who must continue in the spiritual battle. His theme, “the good soldier of Jesus Christ” follows that of first Timothy, “Fight the good fight” (1Ti 1:18; 1Ti 6:12).

God's authority is revealed in election - God chose Jesus Christ, and ordained that all who believe in Him would share in His glory, character. 1st five verses: Tit 1:2 God's veracity; Tit 1:3 God's timing; Tit 1:4 God's plan; Tit 1:5 God's organization: has an objective - salvation (Luk 19:10); has a policy - Grace; has Authority (Rom 13:1-7). Divine institutions: (1) volition; (2) marriage; (3) family; (4) government. Paul uses a Divine principle in setting up churches (1Co 14:33, Tit 1:5). Paul left Titus in Crete to fix several authority issues. Titus was to pick an overseer: husband focused on one wife - not polygamous (Tit 1:6-9).
