Knowing God—A Study in 2nd Corinthians

Moving Beyond Knowledge into Experience—

Igniting the Tinder of Truth by the Fire of the Spirit

This conference was presented in Northern Virginia February 28–March 2, 2014.

“For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness,
who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge
of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” 2Co 4:6

Second Corinthians is much more than just a defense and vindication of Paul’s ministry. It expounds the foundation of his life and service in the experiential knowledge of God in all His varied manifestations to Paul. In other words, Paul was who he was, and did what he did, because he continued to grow in his knowledge of God. This knowledge was not merely intellectual or academic. Rather it was essentially experiential, as Paul came to know the living Christ in his daily life.

Power of Praise #6

Praise of obedience. In New Testament believers are told to repent — change of attitude that results in change of life any time we drift. Once repentance has taken place, we need commitment to obedience. An obedient life praises God. Saul is rebuked by Samuel for disobedience (1Sa 15:22-23). His disobedience was just as bad as divination. Abraham is an example of focused obedience (Gen 22:1-5, Heb 11:17). Our acts of obedience is an act of worship. Without faith it's impossible to please God (Heb 11:1, Heb 11:6). Paul despaired of life convinced that he was done, but realized that was God's purpose (2Co 1:8-10). Jesus came to deliver us from all circumstances. Issac was the hope of the world but God's command was more important to Abraham (Heb 11:17-19). Praise of thanksgiving is a natural expression of a faith that believes God is who He says He is and does what He says He'll do (Heb 13:15-17). (1) Praise ought to be continual on our part; (2) The first order of praise is thanksgiving; (3) Beyond thanksgiving is giving (2Co 8:1-5, 2Co 9:6-15); (4) The number one arena in which these things take place is the local church. We lose when we fail to praise.
