The theme for the Spring 2011 Bible conference in Phoenix is found both at the beginning and end of the book (1Ti 1:18, 1Ti 6:12). In each reference, different words and phrases are used. In the first, Paul speaks of the good fight of faith as an ongoing campaign, thus reminding us that we are part of a vast and great spiritual army. In the last, his words focus on our own personal struggle, a good reminder that no one can fight our battle for us. This scope and intensity will be captured as we follow Paul’s thought through the book.

Ezekiel #29

Ezekiel #29

Israel's path to destruction was unbridled lust leading to defilement, then alienation from relationships, then creation of a vacuum in the soul, then greater perversion and glory in the past, then the lovers become judges (Eze 24:1, Eze 23:28-33). God's judgment is equal to the sin — the cup of wrath (Rev 17:1-5; Rev 18:3-8). Paul exhorts believers not to walk as unbelievers — "in the futility of their mind" - vacuum in the soul (Eph 4:17). "Having their understanding darkened" is the blackout of their soul and alienation from relationship from God (Eph 4:18, Gal 5:4), then scarring of the soul "blindness [hardening] of the heart". Ultimately you'll get to unrestrained living and self-betrayal in slavery to your chosen sin — frantic search (Eph 4:19, Jer 2:13). Hedonism is pursuit of pleasure and causes breakdown in relationships (Jam 4:1-4). Slander is equivalent to murder. Friends of the world are enemies of God (Jam 4:4).  Believers are the temple of God and God will judge the temple (1Co 3:16-17). Consider the motives of your heart. Correct yourself through prayer. Confirm God's word and will.
