1st Corinthians – In Pursuit of the Character of Christ – 2013 – Southern California
This study was presented in the August 2013 Bible conference in Southern California.
Though Corinth was a “problem church” for Paul, how thankful we ought to be for them, for without their problems and questions, we would not have the answers and guidance provided in this wonderful letter. As with all the epistles, the challenge is to lay hold of the character of Christ. We are to be “transformed by the renewing of [our] minds” (Rom 12:2), and to “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus” (Phi 2:5).
Key verses for this study:
“For I determined not to know anything among youexcept Jesus Christ and Him crucified.” 1Co 2:2 and
“Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you are truly unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us.” 1Co 5:7

Four beast amplify Nebuchadnezzars dream in Daniel chapter 2 (Dan 7:1-8). The beasts represent four gentile empires. The church age are not dealt with by Daniel because it is a mystery (Eph 3:4-11, Col 1:25-27, 1Pe 1:10-12). 7 major judgments: (1) Judgment for sin on the cross (2Co 5:21, 1Jo 2:2, Heb 9:26-28, Rom 8:1); (2) Confession - self-judgment (1Co 11:31, 1Jo 1:9); (3) Rapture -- church removed -- judgment of Christ Bema seat - (1Co 4:10, 1Co 3:11-15, 1Co 9:24-27), Crowns: Crown of righteousness for faithfulness in life (2Ti 4:7-8); Crown of joy for personal evangelism (Phi 4:1, 1Th 4:19); Crown of Glory (1Pe 5:4); Crown of life for faithfulness in persecution (Jam 1:12); (4) Judgment of living Jews and Gentiles at the millennium - "sheep and goat nations" - sheep are gentile believers that enter the kingdom (Mat 24:37-41, Mat 25:1-46); Judgment of Jews (Eze 20:33-38); (6) the Great White Throne (Rev 20:11-15, Joh 5:22) - the righteous of Christ verses the righteous of man (Isa 64:6); (7) Judgment of angels (Mat 25:41, Jud 1:6-7, 1Co 6:3). Divine preparation for judgment - the Supreme court in heaven (Dan 7:9-12, Dan 4:13, Dan 4:17, Dan 4:23, Psa 89:7-8, Zec 1:9-11). God will never judge until He provides overwhelming evidence is given of the Righteousness of His Judgment. God's love could not be demonstrated in angels, but only man, who can lay down his life for another (1Jo 3:16). Ancient of Days emphasizes the Eternity and Holiness of God (Rev 6:16, Rom 3:5-6). Wheels and fire represent Omniscience and Justice (Dan 7:9, Psa 89:14). Christ is the evidence of God's Righteousness and Justice (2Co 5:21, Joh 1:14, Joh 1:17, Rom 8:28-29, Psa 89:14, Psa 108:2). The Antichrist (or little horn) is judged and annihilated (Dan 7:10-11, Dan 7:26, Rev 13:5). The book of life, or remembrance contains those who believe (Exo 32:32, Psa 69:28, Psa 139:16, Mal 3:16, Rev 20:12). Book of deeds (Rev 20:12). Antichrist persecutes the Jews for 3.5 years (Rev 12:6-14, Rev 13:5), but is defeated (Dan 7:11, Rev 19:20). The "beast" for Daniel is revived Rome, but John applies "beast" to the head of the empire (Dan 2:44-45). Christ receives His Kingdom (Dan 7:13-14, Psa 2:7-8, Rev 5:5-12). Clouds speak of the Glory of God (Mat 16:27-28, Mat 19:28, Mat 24:30, Mat 25:31). Clouds refer to us (Heb 12:1) "cloud of witnesses" (Eph 1:12, 2Th 1:10); Gifts from God the Father to God the Son at the 2nd Advent: Dominion refers to rulership; Glory speaks of reverence and honor; Kingdom lasting forever (Mat 6:13, Rev 11:15).
