The Transforming Power of Grace 3

The Transforming Power of Grace 3

Psa 34:11-28 David praises God for his Grace in times when he acts foolishly. David's leadership draws a lesson out of the Abimelech incident. Spiritual leaders teach and exemplify sound doctrine so as to lead all classes of believers into sanctified living. Paul emphasizes purity for overseers  (Act 20:17, Act 20:28, Act 20:32, Act 20:35). Paul saw himself as a servant of servants. Peter explains the elder role (1Pe 5:1-4). At the moment of salvation we are giving all blessings (Eph 1:3, Rom 5:1-2, 2Co 5:17) for the purpose of becoming more like him (Luk 9:23). We are priests (1Pe 2:5-9) to God as an intercessor for others. We have the ministry of reconciliation as ambassadors (2Co 5:14-21). Our spiritual gift has a ministry to others (1Co 12:4-7). Service means sacrifice. Elder has spiritual authority; this has to be established. Every husband is the elder of his home. Shepherd lays down his life for the flock. Overseers must have character (Tit 1:7-9). Danger of drifting away (Eph 4:1-32); Contrast is discerning good and evil (Heb 5:1-14).
