Joshua # 01 -- Jos 1:1-12

Joshua # 01 -- Jos 1:1-12

Deu 31:1-8 “Don’t be afraid God is with you”. Joshua is a book of warfare. The warfare illustration is used by the Apostle Paul to describe our fight against the world, flesh and devil. God chose Joshua to succeed Moses (Exo 17:8-16). Only Joshua and Caleb were the only to enter the land. The theme is “Victorious faith”. Joshua kept the records which was the basis for the book (Jos 24:26). Preparation for victory demands purity (Jos 6:12).  Threefold principle for life:  (1) Grace, (2) through faith, (3) unto good works (Eph 2:8-10). God’s grace is independent of the instruments He chooses (Jos 1:1-6). God’s grace is also communicated through His word. Grace is built on immutable promises.  The gift still has to be claimed (Jos 1:2-3, Jos 1:6, Eph 1:3). God’s grace initiates but we have to respond. Grace impels action, work. Grace is the basis for a life of stability (Jos 1:5).  We are to be content for He will never leave us. “Let your conduct be without covetousness… I will never leave nor forsake you.” (Heb 13:5-6)
