Hosea Session 5

Hosea Session 5

God's discipline is always administered in love. He disciplines as is appropriate the period of infidelity (Hos 2:6-13). 1) Disciplinary action is designed to disrupt the soul destroying habits of sin — the pattern of rebellion. 2) Discipline destroys the inclination for sin and shifts the inclination of the soul back to God. 3) A critical outcome of discipline is realization that His blessings have been abused and squandered. Balaam's realization illustrates (Num 22:34). 4) God's discipline intensifies until the desired result is accomplished (Hos 2:9-13). Three paths possible from the point of salvation: a) normal christian life — cross to the crown (2Pe 1:4-11), b) the prodical path downward (Eph 4:17-20), c) the path of recovery (Jam 4:4-10, Eph 4:30). God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. The Word of God rebukes us; God chasten us (Heb 12:3-11). Discipline is proof we are children; He disciplines for our profit.
