"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.'" JOH 14:6.
Seven times in the gospel of John Jesus makes the bold declaration, "I Am." It was an unmistakable assertion that He was the great "I Am" of EXO 3:14. In each case He identifies Himself as being and doing what God alone is and does. Of all these statements, this one stands apart. It is a three-in-one statement. For this He uses three of the most all-encompassing words of Scripture and theology. “The Way, The Truth, The Life”. The three are inseparable. We cannot have one without the other two. I think that much of our failure, as individuals seeking to serve God in an acceptable manner, and as the Body of Christ seeking to fulfil our commission (the mission shared by God and man), is in failing to find the spiritual balance of these three as summed up in the Man, Christ Jesus. It is His way alone that leads into truth. This is not just objective truth intellectually grasped, but also subjective truth experienced. And it is this "living and powerful" truth from which issues “the life” which Jesus also identifies as “abundant life” in JOH 10:10. It was an axiom of the Samurai warriors of the 17th century:
“ADVANCED TECHNIQUES ARE THE BASICS MASTERED”
Therefore, we should all strive to master the very fundamental things of Christ.
