The Gospel According to Abraham-2016-Arizona Bible Conference

The Gospel According to Abraham

Arizona Bible Conference

September 2–4, 2016

“And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the
gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, ‘In you all the nations shall be blessed.’
So then those who are of faith are blessed with believing Abraham.” Gal 3:8–9

“Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He does not say, ‘And to seeds,’
as of many, but as of one, ‘And to your Seed,’ who is Christ.” Gal 3:16

Gene taught “The Gospel According to Abraham” over Labor Day weekend in Prescott, Arizona.

We have recently completed studies in “The Gospel According to Isaiah” (No. Virginia April 2016) and “The Gospel According to David” (Colorado May 2016). The purpose of these studies is to show that the Gospel message—pointing men to Jesus Christ in faith—is declared throughout Scripture. In fact, this is the central message of the Bible. Certainly, in the Old Testament, the nature of the Gospel message is necessarily prophetic as His coming and redemption are spoken of as future events. Job’s statement regarding his “Redeemer” reveals that, in ancient times, the message of the coming Savior was clearly stated and understood.

In the future, we will also study “The Gospel According to Noah” (Uniontown October 2016) and then “The Gospel According to Moses” (No. Virginia Spring 2017). The combined weight of these studies should greatly strengthen our faith in the unity and harmony of the Scriptures and, at the same time, motivate us to “imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises,” Heb 6:12.

Paul states that the Gospel was “preached … beforehand [in advance] … to Abraham.” The content of that message was that “In you all the nations shall be blessed.” Let’s look at the repetition of the message first, then we will consider its implications. There are five passages in which this promise is made to Abraham. Each is significant in the life and history of Abraham.

By gaining an understanding of the unity and harmony of the biblical message, we come to see that, indeed, Jesus Christ is the focus from Genesis to Revelation; and faith in Him as Savior is the only way to enter into eternal life. This is just as true for Old Testament people as for those living after the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ.

The Gospel According to David-2016-Rocky Mountain Bible Conference

The Gospel According to David

 Rocky Mountain Bible Conference

May 27–29, 2016

In Psalm 32 David declares, "Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity." Paul uses this quote in Rom 4:7–8 to support three great truths of the Gospel:

(1) Justification is by faith in Christ alone;
(2) God imputes His righteousness to those who believe the Gospel; and
(3) This righteous standing before God is apart from works of any kind.

The Gospel According to Isaiah-2016-Northern Virginia Bible Conference

The Gospel According to Isaiah

“The Evangelist of the Old Testament
Anticipates the Coming of the Savior”
Northern Virginia Bible Conference
April 1-3, 2016

“The Spirit of the Lord Click to registerGod is upon Me, because the Lord has anointed Me to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound.” ISA 61:1

Many scholars consider Isaiah to be the evangelist of the Old Testament. This year, the theme for the Northern Virginia BTBM Bible Conference was “The Gospel According to Isaiah.” Gene examined Isaiah’s rich prophecies given in the eighth century before the birth of Christ. There is an astounding array of passages that portray the virgin birth, the unique hypostatic union of God and man, the proclamation of John the Baptizer, and then the life of Jesus—His ministry and substitutionary death, followed by His resurrection and future glory. There are even find hints of the call and formation of the Church—the Body of Christ—and our own purpose in the story of the ages.

Jesus read the theme verse in the Synagogue in Nazareth (LUK 4:16-19) at the inauguration of His ministry.

The Gospel According to Moses - 2017 Shenandoah Valley Bible Conference
Gene presented The Gospel According to Moses at the first annual Shenandoah Valley Bible Conference held April 21-23, 2017 in Winchester, Virginia.

This series is intended to demonstrate that the Gospel message, focusing on the Person and work of Jesus Christ, is the central message of the entire Bible. The coming of the Messiah and His saving work of redemption is presented throughout the Old Testament through direct prophetic statements, as well as using types and shadows. New Testament authors repeatedly refer to Old Testament expectations of the coming of the Savior—the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Mountaintops of Scripture - 2012 - Northern VA
The 2012 Northern Virginia Conference was on The Mountaintops of Scripture, giving a dispensational overview of the Bible.

The goals of this study are three-fold: first, to help the Bible student “think through” the Bible story along the lines of God’s promises and their fulfillment in the Person and work of our Lord Jesus Christ. The second objective is for us to gain a sense of how to “rightly divide” the Word of God, according to its own inherent pattern. In so doing, we are able to see its unity and minimize supposed contradictions. Finally, this overall grasp of Scripture will enable us to “tell the story” to others, keeping the focus where it belongs—on Jesus Christ the Savior.

The Secret Place of the Most High-2014-Canberra, AUS
Gene taught "The Secret Place of the Most High" May 3–4, 2014 in Canberra, Australia.

This study is intended to use the Tabernacle of the wilderness as an object lesson of the Person and work of Christ. Each article of the Tabernacle speaks of another aspect of His gracious provisions for those who trust in Him. Since we cannot utilize what we do not know we have, this study brings to light what it means to live by faith. In essence, the Tabernacle, seen as a diagram, is a map to the greatest hidden treasure of all time—living in the presence of God Almighty. Our careful study of this topic will be richly rewarded as we, "walk by faith, not by sight," 2Co 5:7.

"He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
shall abide in the shadow of the Almighty." Psa 91:1

The Word Became Flesh-2014 Texas Conference
The Word Became Flesh Bible Conference was held in Buchanan Dam, Texas November 28–30, 2014.

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God ... And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth." Joh 1:1, Joh 1:14

Gene says, "It is my earnest prayer that this study will bring each of us to "behold His glory," and be enraptured by the "beauty of holiness" seen only in Him. He presents such a captivating image that even the smallest seed of faith will be blessed by the process of inner transformation into His likeness. The book of Hebrews captures the thing we lack so much in our hustle-and-bustle lives."

"But we see Jesus [Heb 2:9] ... Therefore, holy brethren ... consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession,
Jesus Christ [Heb 3:1] ... looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher [perfector, NASB] of our faith ..." Heb 12:2

He continues, "May God grant that each of us be delivered from the distractions of our time, to look upon His face, to behold His glory, and to be changed into His image!"

Titus - Living in Light of the Cross - 2011 - Canberra, AUS

The life of faith is a spiritual journey beginning at the moment of new birth (regeneration) through personal faith in Jesus Christ as Savior, and continuing onward and upward from spiritual infancy—through the stages of spiritual growth— into maturity and beyond. I refer to it as the journey “from the cross to the crown.”

The little book of Titus, one of Paul’s “pastoral epistles,” provides a short-course on the life of faith. As we explore the great and timeless truth contained in this epistle, we will refer again and again to the “life of faith” and the journey “from the cross to the crown,” and to the many promises and provisions supplied by God in His matchless grace for those who choose to live in the light of the cross.

This was the subject of the Spring 2011 Conference in Canberra, Australia.
